How is the required final score calculated?
It’s a weighted average. We combine your current grade (weighted by what’s left of the course) with the score you need on the final (weighted by the final’s share). The full formula and a worked example are in the How to Calculate section above.
What happens if I fail my final?
It depends on your current grade, the score you receive, your final’s weight, and your course’s passing rule. Use the scenario table above to see the calculated course grade for a low final score, then compare it with your syllabus.
Can I still get an A?
Enter your numbers above and look at the target cards. If the A card says Not reachable, that grade is mathematically impossible no matter how well you do — but the next card down may still be within reach. Focus your prep on the highest reachable target.
How much is my final worth?
That’s the weight your teacher assigns to the final — find it in your syllabus, usually listed as a percentage of your total grade. Our Final impact section shows how much each point on the final moves your course grade.
Why does my Canvas grade look different from this calculator?
Canvas sometimes counts ungraded assignments as zeros, which drags your displayed average below your real grade. Use the grade from your syllabus or your instructor’s gradebook for the current grade input — and always verify with your syllabus.
What grading scale does this calculator use?
GradeClarity starts with an example scale (A = 93, A- = 90, B+ = 87, and so on). US schools and courses use different cutoffs, so edit the scale to match your syllabus — every target recalculates right away.
What if my class uses points instead of percentages?
Convert first: divide the points you’ve earned by the points possible so far to get your current grade as a percentage, and divide the final’s points by the course’s total points to get its weight. Then enter both above.
What if my instructor uses a curve or extra credit?
GradeClarity does not predict an unpublished curve. Use the current grade and final weight defined by your syllabus; if extra credit puts your grade above 100%, normalize it using your instructor’s course rules before calculating.
