Please read these Terms of Use (“Terms”) carefully before using GradeClarity.com (the “Service”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy. We may update these Terms at any time; continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

2. Description of Service

GradeClarity.com is a free, browser-based final grade calculator. It helps students estimate the score they need on a final exam to achieve a desired course grade, see which grade targets are still reachable, and understand how much the final exam affects their overall grade.

All calculations happen locally in your web browser. We do not upload, store, or process your grades or any other data on our servers.

3. Educational Disclaimer

The Service is an educational planning tool only. It is not academic, legal, financial, or professional advice.

  • Grade calculations depend on the accuracy of your inputs and your instructor’s grading policy
  • Always verify results against your official course syllabus and grading policy
  • Your instructor’s official grade is the only authoritative source
  • We are not responsible for decisions made based on the Service’s outputs

If you are under 13, do not use the Service. If you are between 13 and 17, please review these Terms with a parent or guardian.

4. No Account Required

We do not require user accounts, passwords, or registration. You may use the Service anonymously. Your inputs are processed in your browser and are not associated with any account.

5. Advertising Policy

The Service is free. Advertising is not enabled in the initial release, but may be introduced later to support the Service. The rules below apply if and when advertising is enabled.

5.1 Ad Placement Policy (Hard Constraint)

We commit to the following advertising placement rules:

  • No ads before results: The calculator input area and results area will never contain advertisements
  • No above-the-fold ads on the tool: The first screen you see contains only the calculator and essential information
  • No ads on supporting or legal pages: The About, Contact, Privacy, Terms, and Cookie Policy pages will not display advertisements
  • Maximum 2 in-page ad units + 1 anchor ad per page: We limit ad density to preserve user experience
  • Ads load only after results: Ad scripts are initialized only after your calculation results are displayed

These rules exist to ensure the Service remains fast, usable, and trustworthy.

5.2 Ad Network Compliance

If ads are enabled, we may use Google AdSense or another disclosed advertising network. Before enabling it, we will update the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy and implement any required consent controls. We will comply with the advertising network’s publisher policies, including:

  • We do not encourage users to click on ads
  • We do not click on our own ads
  • We do not use automated tools to generate ad impressions or clicks
  • We do not place ads in a way that may cause accidental clicks

6. No Paid Products

The Service is currently free and does not offer paid subscriptions, premium features, or in-app purchases. We do not process payments and do not store payment information.

If we introduce paid features in the future, we will update these Terms and provide appropriate payment and refund policies before enabling any transactions.

7. Intellectual Property

7.1 Your Data

You retain all rights to the grades and academic information you enter. We do not claim any ownership over your inputs. We do not access, copy, or store your data.

7.2 Our Content

The GradeClarity.com name, logo, website design, code, and written content are our property. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or resell the Service or its underlying code without permission.

8. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any illegal purpose
  • Use automated scripts, bots, or scrapers to access the Service
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the source code of the Service
  • Interfere with the Service’s operation or abuse its client-side resources
  • Misrepresent the Service’s outputs as official academic records
  • Use the Service to cheat, plagiarize, or violate academic integrity policies

We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these rules.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Merchantability
  • Fitness for a particular purpose
  • Non-infringement
  • Uninterrupted or error-free operation
  • Accuracy or completeness of any calculation, output, or educational content

Because all processing happens in your browser, output accuracy depends on your inputs, your browser, and your device’s performance. You are responsible for verifying your results against your official course syllabus.

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW:

  • We shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
  • We shall not be liable for any academic, financial, or personal decisions made based on the Service’s outputs
  • Our total liability shall not exceed $0 (the Service is free)
  • We are not liable for issues caused by your browser, device, operating system, or the data you provide

11. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms shall first be attempted to be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If unresolved, disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration in Oregon, United States, or through the small claims court in that jurisdiction, at your option.

You agree to resolve disputes on an individual basis and not as part of a class action.

Note: The operator does not publish a physical mailing address. Please contact us at support@gradeclarity.com for any legal notices.

12. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms or abuse the Service. Because the Service is free and does not require an account, termination means you must stop accessing the site.

13. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted on the Service with an updated effective date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
